Zechariah 4:10
Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand. For these seven lamps represent the eyes of the LORD that search all around the world.

Do not despise these small beginnings… It’s so easy to think that small beginnings are worthless, but God loves them. I know that my husband sometimes procrastinates things because he doesn’t want to start something that’s going to be a huge job, but here God rejoices just to see the work begin. The plumb line was a tool used to make things straight. It was used throughout the process, but it was especially important at the beginning when the foundation was being laid. If the foundation was crooked then the entire building would be off. It didn’t seem like a big tool or a big part of things, but it was important. In the same way, beginnings, no matter how small, are important. That first step can be like an avalanche setting off a chain reaction that eventually gets the job completely done. So, no matter how small, that first step is important. Size isn’t something God cares about – whether it’s the size of our sin or the size of our good work or the size of our first steps.
So all that to say, don’t reject something because it seems small or insignificant, and don’t keep from doing or starting something because the first steps don’t seem important or big. Each step of the process is important to God. He loves our initiative to do His work and to get things done.
